Today’s Bath & Kitchen Trends in the Marketplace

Each year, remodeling and design professionals get a sneak peak of kitchen and bath trends at the annual Kitchen and Bath Industry Show. Here are 12 trends to keep an eye on:

  • Kitchen sinks with layered prep areas, such as cutting boards, colanders and grids.
  • Black stainless steel appliances. LG makes a pretty one called Black Ice.
  • Shaker style cabinetry, quartz counter tops and undercount sinks make of quartz, composite materials or stainless steel.
  • Warm tones and matte finishes on faucets and hardware.
  • Surfaces consisting of concrete, marble or faux marble and materials that show patina.
  • 3-D tiles and porcelain that looks like brick or exotic materials.
  • Walk-in showers and free-standing tubs, floating vanities and radiant floor heating.
  • Bathroom mirrors integrated with LED lighting and televisions.
  • Self-cleaning toilets!
  • Antimicrobial products like copper doorknobs, and eco-friendly products and technology that save on water/energy.
  • Vanities, fixtures and appliances scaled down for smaller spaces.
  • More color in everything from hardware to appliances to cabinetry.

If you are ever in the Chicago area be sure to stop by PIRCH and be a designer for a day! I had the opportunity to visit with my good friend and interior designer Terry Sullivan from Willow Tree Design and it was not only informative but I had a ton of fun playing with the interactive kitchen and bath displays.
